Waiting to see where it snows? Book now: winter has arrived!

Published on December 12, 2012, by in Contests, Newsletter.

December 11, 2012 Inside Track

Like a kid on Christmas Eve anxiously awaiting what the morning would bring, I went to bed Saturday night with giddy anticipation. What seemed like a few minutes later, I woke up to a text from Aspen/Snowmass stating, “Time to explode out of bed. We have more than a foot of new snow!” Instantly, before even looking out my window, I knew it was going to be a good day. Mother Nature delivered a healthy serving of snow over the weekend, and I have the sore legs and perma-grin to prove it. Our hometown of Aspen/Snowmass has reported 19″ in the last week, while Winter Park had a seven-day accumulation of 18″, Beaver Creek received 22″, Vail reported 20″, Breckenridge had 17″ and Crested Butte counted 15″. And the snow continues to fly…

Elsewhere, Jackson Hole received nearly 30 new inches over the last five days and opened the tram, gondola and the brand new Casper lift last week. There are 35 trails now open at Northstar, and Whistler has opened much more terrain thanks to a 60″ base. Alta is skiing well after 12″ fell in this last storm while its Utah neighbor, Park City, was graced with 9″ in 72 hours. Red Mountain opened last week with what they’re saying is, “So much snow, you’ll think it’s February.”

If you’re waiting to see what the snow is doing before booking your trip, the wait is over. Or, if you’re waiting to win a trip this winter, remember to visit our Facebook page during the month of December. Winter is Here Snow has come and more on the way

Published on December 11, 2012, by in Uncategorized.

I love the first big snow of the season.  Even as a child, I loved the crunching of snow under my feet just walking around outside in the crisp cold air.  The tides of winter have appeared to have turned in our favor and the community is buzzing with excitement.  Joel Gratz, a conservative Colorado snow forecaster just posted this outlook for the rest of December.  Great turns to look forward to before vacationers enjoy a white christmas at their favorite ski resorts.  Click here to see updated snow reports and conditions

Red Mountain Opens With Blower Powder

Published on December 7, 2012, by in Uncategorized.

I have had the experience of opening day at Aspen Highlands where opening day is a huge locals celebration of winter.  This is the closest I can compare to what the culture of die hard, powder and cool mountain terrain loving locals call “an epic day”.

From Eric K of RED Mountain:

“RED Mountain Resort has been fortunate to be in the path of many storms this fall as we have received over 217 cm (84 inches) of snow in the last two months.  The upper mountain is in exceptional condition with an alpine base of 140 cms, or 4 ½ feet.”

If this is any inclination of things to come this winter, try something NEW!  RED is legit.

“Snow Ghosts” reminiscent of my youth skiing in northwest Montana…

Happy Powder hunting!

After a few weeks of cold sunshine, Colorado is about to enter what looks like a fairly sustained Snow fall cycle which should bring smiles to holiday travelers here for a ski trip.  While Snowmass and Aspen are skiing well with a little help from the Mountain crews working around the clock, this weekend should be a great time with some freshies due in tonight.Aspen Noaa Snow forcast
