Ski.com's Winner of the Banff Lake Louise Photo Contest

Cameron Redshaw’s “Airing the Trees”

Thank you to everyone who submitted photos in our Banff Lake Louise Photo Contest on our Facebook page last month. We were amazed by the volume of entries and were thrilled to see all the displays of stoke for the mountains. Over the last two weeks, our Facebook fans narrowed down the entries to the top 20 photos, which were reviewed by Ski.com staffers and Banff Lake Louise Local Legends. After intense deliberation, we’re excited to congratulate Cameron Redshaw for his winning photo, “Airing the Trees.” It’s featured above and was sent out to all our eNewsletter subscribers this morning. Cameron wins a free trip to Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta to focus his lens on one of the most picturesque locales on the planet. His prize package includes:

  • airport transfers from Calgary by Banff Airporter
  • 3 nights at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
  • 3 nights at Fairmont Banff Springs
  • 5-day lift tickets valid at Lake Louise, Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay
  • a full-day photography session/photo shoot with professional photographer Callum Snape

Stay tuned for more trip giveaways on our Facebook page!

Prepare to get stoked…

Published on January 4, 2013, by in Skiing, Snow.

From the incredible cinematography and energizing music to the chance to live vicariously through some of our favorite pros as they travel to the corners of the earth in search of the next great adventure, skiing and snowboarding films continuously fuel our stoke for this culture we love.

That being said, I’ll take you into the weekend with one of my all-time favorite clips from a ski film. Giving urban skiing a whole new meaning, this clip from 2011′s “All. I. Can.” is famously known as J.P. Auclair’s Street Segment and went viral when it hit social media channels early last season. Warning: it’s nearly impossible to watch this only once.  And…..don’t try this at home:

When you’ve picked your jaws up off the ground, take a look at this behind-the-scenes video, released earlier this week, documenting the creation of this now famous segment.

Enjoy and have a safe and fun weekend, everyone! See you on the slopes!

As you’re settling into your New Year’s resolutions and planning how you’ll accomplish all that you’ve pledged, perhaps you’re getting overwhelmed… Good news! A ski or snowboard trip checks off a lot of common goals on those resolution lists.

  • Need more quality time with your loved ones? There’s nothing quite like watching your kids catapult from the bunny slopes to the blues.
  • Want to lose weight but need a proverbial carrot? How about ski conditioning to prep for a cat-skiing trip in British Columbia?
  • And you want to save money… You’re in luck: we have incredible deals on flights, lodging, lift tickets and everything else you need to make your dream ski trip happen. And then there’s that old saying, “Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer.”

For a little extra resolution inspiration, we’ve put together a Pinterest pinboard of our 2013 Bucket List. We may not check everything off the list, but dreaming of ski trips is half the fun.

Here’s to a snowy 2013, filled with goggle tans, faceshots and fresh tracks!

Will you have a white Christmas?

Published on December 18, 2012, by in Uncategorized.

To follow up on our newsletter, we found this handy map from our friends at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (also known as NOAA)  displaying the probability of a white Christmas across the nation. Keep in mind this map is based on Climate Normals from 1981-2010. However, with resorts across the west seeing high snowfall totals in the last week, chances are many of us will indeed have a white Christmas.
