Powder in Jackson Hole

A storm rolled through the Tetons on the last weekend of February, blanketing Jackson Hole with more than a foot of pristine powder. The snow that dropped during the storm pushed Jackson Hole Mountain resort over the 300-inch mark for the season, making it one of the best destinations in North America to visit if you’re searching for powder and steep skiing. Needless to say, the conditions were excellent and the powder in Jackson Hole was perfect. With a solid base of 300-plus inches, the skiing in Jackson is only going to get better!

Saturday, February 23rd, was a powder day as Jackson’s season total crested the fabled 300-inch mark. Saturated grey clouds settled over the Tetons throughout the day, and Wyoming’s powder-hungry masses turned out in droves for the awesome day of storm skiing. Everyone was calling it “the deepest powder day of the year,” and the excitement level in the tram was palpable. Here’s a video from Saturday’s action in Jackson:

The snow kept falling all day and overnight on Saturday. Then, as if the weekend couldn’t get any better, the clouds broke as the sun rose on Sunday, February 24th. Blue skies sat overhead, deep snow was underfoot, and Jackson Hole showed everyone on-hand why it is one of the most popular ski resorts to visit in North America.

Red Mountain Opens With Blower Powder

I have had the experience of opening day at Aspen Highlands where opening day is a huge locals celebration of winter. This is the closest I can compare to what the culture of die hard, powder and cool mountain terrain loving locals call “an epic day”.

From Eric K of RED Mountain:

“RED Mountain Resort has been fortunate to be in the path of many storms this fall as we have received over 217 cm (84 inches) of snow in the last two months. The upper mountain is in exceptional condition with an alpine base of 140 cms, or 4 ½ feet.”

If this is any inclination of things to come this winter, try something NEW! RED is legit.

The American GFS Weather Model posted this 5 day model for snowfall across North America. Canadian ski resorts and the Montana, Utah, and Colorado Rockies ski resorts should see some good snowfall if all goes well…

Snow to Hit Colorado!

After a few weeks of cold sunshine, Colorado is about to enter what looks like a fairly sustained Snow fall cycle which should bring smiles to holiday travelers here for a ski trip. While Snowmass and Aspen are skiing well with a little help from the Mountain crews working around the clock, this weekend should be a great time with some freshies due in tonight.
